India's SCI launches tender for up to six LNG dual-fuel boxships

Indian state-owned Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has invited bids to build up to six LNG dual-fuel container vessels.

The tender includes two firm orders and options for four additional vessels, according to the tender notice.

Each vessel will have a capacity of 8,000 TEU and be capable of operating on both LNG and conventional marine fuels.

The tender is open to both Indian and foreign shipyards, provided they meet SCI's technical and financial eligibility criteria.

Foreign shipyards must have delivered at least two container vessels larger than 5,000 TEU that are currently in service within the past 10 years. Indian shipyards without prior experience in building container vessels must partner with an experienced international shipyard that has previously built LNG dual-fuel vessels.

SCI will assess bids based on factors including delivery schedule, bunker fuel consumption, service speed and cargo-carrying capacity.

Bids must be submitted by 31 August, while a virtual pre-bid meeting is scheduled for 18 August.
