India’s SCI orders first methanol dual-fuel platform supply vessel
India’s state-owned Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has placed an order with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders for the construction of a methanol dual-fuel platform supply vessel (PSV).

A PSV is a vessel used to transport supplies, equipment and crew to offshore oil and gas installations. This particular vessel, with a capacity of 3,000 dwt, will be designed to run on both methanol and conventional marine fuels.
Once delivered, it will become the first methanol-capable vessel in SCI’s fleet. The initiative aligns with the government’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), which aims to promote use of clean fuels in shipping, according to SCI.
The order also reflects the government’s broader efforts to develop methanol bunkering infrastructure in India. In line with this, the Mumbai Port Authority has recently invited proposals from companies to supply methanol as a marine fuel at the Port of Mumbai.
