INERATEC partners with GIZ for e-fuel production in Chile
Germany-based e-fuel firm INERATEC has partnered with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to accelerate e-fuel production in Chile.

The collaboration aims at demonstrating a “technically feasible and commercially viable” solution for Power-to-Liquid (PtL) plants using modular synthesis units, said INERATEC.
“Synthetic fuels can be used to replace fossil-based fuels in ships,” said the company. “The production of e-fuels from green hydrogen could help to increase the competitiveness of Chilean industry by reducing its dependence on imported fossil fuels,” it adds.
Green electrofuels or e-fuels are manufactured by combining carbon dioxide with hydrogen produced with renewable electricity.
According to a white paper released by Trafigura, Chile is among the well-positioned countries to produce large quantities of e-fuels. It has access to abundant renewable energy sources such as solar to produce green hydrogen. e-methanol, can then be produced by combining green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide.
The group will test the potential constraints of e-fuel production in Chile as a part of this project, stated the e-fuel company. “It will identify and analyze potential off-takers and feedstock suppliers, as well as different Chilean regions to establish and optimize the design of the plants,” INERATEC says.
