The ISCC suspended Preem's certification because its greenhouse gas (GHG) savings calculation methodology was deemed non-compliant, according to Preem.

Preem tells ENGINE that its methodology has been approved by an independent third-party auditor.

"The methodology in question - although verified and approved by an independent third-party auditor - resulted in reported carbon emissions (GHG-savings) for Preem’s fuels being about 0.5 percent lower than the actual emissions," a Preem representative told ENGINE.

Preem says it has taken corrective action steps by adjusting its calculations.

The company was recently acquired by Varo, which now owns the Gothenburg refinery, as well as Lysekil, which combined make up about 80% of Sweden’s refinery capacity.
