Under the project, both companies will simulate transporting liquefied CO2 via ships to storage sites in Japan and in the Asia-Pacific region, specifically addressing CO2 emissions from the Tokyo metropolitan area. The companies will analyse the cost-effectiveness and operational logistics of this transportation method.
The aim of the project is to utilise the insights gained to advance carbon neutrality efforts in Tokyo through diverse carbon management technologies including CCS.
The project is in sync with Japan’s plans to store 120-240 million mt of CO2 annually by 2050.
