Japanese, UAE firms demonstrates clean ammonia supply chain
Japanese shipping firm Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) transported clean ammonia from UAE's Abu Dhabi to Japan in an ISO tank container, demonstrating ammonia supply chain network between the two countries.

A consortium that includes Japanese oil company INPEX Corporation (INEX), engineering firm IHI Corporation (IHI) and MOL have demonstrated the potential of establishing a clean ammonia supply chain between Japan and UAE.
The clean fuel was supplied by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and produced by Fertiglobe, which is a joint venture between ADNOC and Netherlands-based chemical company OCI.N.V.
The transported ammonia was produced using natural gas in Abu Dhabi.
Ammonia shows promise in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and has a great potential to be used in marine transportation as it is easier to store and transport, the companies said in a joint statement.
Ammonia is a hydrogen derivative that has a higher liquifying temperature and takes less storage space than hydrogen.
INPEX supervised the entire transportation process, while IHI used the clean ammonia in a combustion experiment in an ammonia combustion turbine that is under development.
