German and Japanese energy firms Uniper and JERA in collaboration with US oil and gas firm ConocoPhillips seeks to develop green and blue ammonia projects across US Gulf Coast to cater domestic ammonia demand and export requirements.
They aim to export green ammonia primarily to Europe, followed by Japan and greater Asia.
The duo is conducting engineering feasibility study for the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Later, they will assess green and blue ammonia opportunities.
Green ammonia will be produced through hydrogen and supplied to JERA and Uniper, and the production of ammonia could be further expanded to 8 million mt in future, Uniper says.
Uniper is planning to increase its ammonia supply capacity to 1 million mt/year by 2030. Apart from ammonia, both companies aim to maximise their LNG supply to Germany and Japan.
