AM Green will supply the ammonia to Japan from its Kakinada plant in Andhra Pradesh, which is under construction and will have a capacity of 1 million mt/year. The plant is planned to be commissioned by 2028-29, and the agreement could be extended to cover additional volumes.

The ammonia would pass through receiving, storage and distribution facilities that JERA is developing next to its Hekinan Thermal Power Station in Aichi Prefecture. Most of the ammonia would be supplied to a joint venture that Japanese shipping lines Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) plan to establish. The venture intends to use an ammonia bunker vessel to supply ammonia-capable car carriers.

JERA is one of seven Japanese companies that agreed to develop an ammonia bunker network in the Chubu region. The bunker vessel is scheduled for completion in 2030.
