K Line plans to operate electric tugboat by 2025

The tugboat’s electric engine will be powered by a large capacity lithium-ion battery that can be charged from an onshore charging point.

A generator, which it says can run on a zero-emission fuel in the future, will provide auxiliary power to the tug. It will be built by K Line's subsidiary Seagate Corporation.
