December 26, 2022

Norway-based shipping company Kanfer Shipping and Panama's logistics operator CB Fenton will establish LNG bunkering and small-scale LNG transportation from Panama to the West Coast of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

The companies will conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a floating storage unit (FSU) for LNG to be supplied to dual-fuel vessels as well as onshore distribution in Central America and the West Coast of South America.

Although LNG prices cannot be controlled, LNG infrastructure costs can be significantly reduced, says Stig Hagen, managing partner at Kanfer.

“We are confident that Panama will be an important LNG bunkering hub and even though LNG is said to be a transition fuel, we will see more of bio-LNG and synthetic LNG in years to come. We should even start researching for bio-LNG in Panama,” adds Hagen.
