Klaipeda has been an LNG bunkering port since a first stem was delivered in 2020.
During the maintenance period, Lithuanian households and industries will be supplied with natural gas from the Latvian Inčukalnis underground gas storage facility, and in case of emergency from the Lithuanian-Polish interconnector GIPL, a gas pipeline between Poland and Lithuania.
The maintenance is set to involve cleaning activities in the LNG terminal’s water way, which would require temporary shifting of Klaipėdos’ floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), Klaipėdos Nafta said in a notice. After the FSRU is relocated, the company will carry out inspections of the terminal's jetty infrastructure, including mooring and power generation systems.
Klaipėdos Nafta expects the maintenance to run smoothly and would have minimal impact on its consumers.
It says Lithuania's current gas demand is about three or four times lower than normal, partly as one of its biggest gas consumers, Achema, stopped its major fertiliser manufacturing plant at the beginning of the month due to high gas prices.
