KOMAC's hydrogen-ready LCO2 carrier gets RINA nod

Italian classification society RINA has approved a hydrogen-ready liquid CO2 (LCO2) carrier design developed by South Korean marine engineering firm Korea Maritime Consultants (KOMAC).

The 40,000 cbm vessel is LNG-capable and hydrogen-ready, meaning it can use hydrogen as fuel in the future. The vessel will be equipped for onboard hydrogen production, RINA said.
“LCO2 shipping is still an emerging market, with only a limited number of vessels in operation or under construction. This makes the development of new ships essential,” it added.
