January 27, 2022

Maersk Supply Service and Danish energy renewable energy firm Ørsted plans to launch the world’s first full-scale offshore charging station for vessels through its new enterprise ‘Stillstrom’.

Stillstrom intends to power idle vessels with clean energy in ports, hubs and by offshore energy operations.

Ships can lower their emissions by connecting to the charging buoy while being anchored, says Maersk Supply Service. A fully operational charging buoy is large enough to recharge a battery-powered or hybrid-electric service operations vessel.

Stillstrom aims to demonstrate the technology at an offshore wind farm by the third quarter this year.
