Maersk halts operations at Colombia’s Buenaventura after earthquake

Vessel operations, cargo handling and service schedules at the port have been affected, Maersk said.

Maersk has temporarily suspended terminal operations at Colombia’s Buenaventura port following an earthquake that has impacted several regions of the country since Monday.

Facility and infrastructure assessments are underway at the port and the full extent of the disruption is still being determined, the company said.

Logistics operations in other parts of Colombia have also been disrupted. In Buenaventura, vessel operations and cargo handling activities have currently taken a hit.

The Luna Maersk was operating in Buenaventura and has been unable to complete its cargo operations. Containers that were not discharged or loaded will be rescheduled on the next available vessel.

The Gudrun Maersk has cancelled its Buenaventura call, with cargo that had been planned for the vessel to be rescheduled on the next available sailing, Maersk said.

Buenaventura is a bunker location, with VLSFO and LSMGO offered in the port. HSFO is also available in the port with at least one supplier, a source told ENGINE.
