Earlier this month, Maersk concluded its 16,000-TEU methanol-capable vessel series with the delivery of 12 ships. In addition, it has retrofitted one of its conventionally-fuelled container vessel to run on methanol, bringing its current fleet total to 13.

The newly delivered Berlin Mærsk marks the 14th methanol-capable vessel in its fleet and is the first in a larger 17,480-TEU class. It will operate on Maersk’s East Asia–Northern Europe trade route.

Berlin Mærsk will be followed by five more vessels of the same class, completing Maersk’s plan to deploy 19 methanol-capable vessels by the end of the year.
