Maersk’s green methanol sourcing partners:

European Energy

Danish renewable energy firm European Energy will produce e-methanol for Maersk’s first methanol vessel which is expected to be operational by 2023. European Energy plans to have a capacity to produce between 200,000-300,000 mt of e-methanol by 2025.

CIMC ERIC

Chinese engineering and clean energy provider CIMC ERIC expects to have capacity to produce 50,000 mt of green methanol by 2024, ramped up to 200,000 mt in a second phase.

Green Technology Bank

Established by the Chinese government in 2016, Green Technology Bank (GTB) will develop bio-methanol projects in China. The first project targets an annual production of 50,000 mt by 2024. A second project is planned to produce 300,000 mt.

Ørsted

Danish renewable energy firm, Ørsted will develop an e-methanol project in the US and will have a capacity to produce 300,000 mt annually by 2025.

Proman

Swiss energy firm, Proman aims to supply an annual green methanol volume of between 100,000-150,000 mt to Maersk by 2025.

WasteFuel

California-based green fuel firm, WasteFuel will supply Maersk with 30,000 mt of green methanol annually by 2024. The fuel will be initially produced using municipal waste in South America.

With these supplies secured, Maersk says it will have more than enough green methanol to fuel the first 12 green container vessels that it currently has on order.
