Maersk Supply Service to expand biofuel use across fleet
Denmark-based Maersk Supply Service (MSS), a part of A.P. Moller-Maersk, said it will use biofuel across its global fleet to reduce carbon emissions.

The company has launched a new biofuel blend based on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). It claims this fuel will provide the same performance as conventional fuels.
MSS will give customers certificates for purchasing the HVO-blend, confirming its carbon emissions reduction.
It conducted successful biofuel trials onboard the anchor handler Maersk Tender last year. During a six-week charter, the biofuel was blended with marine gasoil, and delivered carbon emission savings of just under 40 mt, it said.
MSS's chief operating officer Mark Handin said the company is exploring various options to achieve complete decarbonisation, and that “biofuel certainly plays an important role in the roadmap to our 2040 target of net-zero operations.”
Earlier this year, MSS modified one of its anchor handlers to run on a hybrid battery power system to lower its emissions.
