The IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) must establish the necessary regulations to drive investment in synthetic fuels or e-fuels and diminish the cost advantages of using fossil fuels, according to WinGD.
“The technology is ready and owners are willing to invest – now is the time to deliver the regulatory framework needed to scale up investment in e-fuels and reduce the cost benefit of continuing to use fossil fuels,” the company stated.
The MEPC is expected to finalise its mid-term measures this week, with potential adoption scheduled for its next meeting in October.
