WIth RINA approval, these methanol fuel cells can now be installed on seagoing vessels.
Meyer Werft and Freudenberg are currently working on retrofitting the cruise ship AIDAnova with a fuel cell system as part of a research project. It is also building a low-emissions cruise ship Silver Nova with technology that involves fuel cells.
Both the companies intend to collaborate on retrofits of existing ships in future. Meyer Neptun Engineering, a startup within the Meyer Group, is already working on retrofit projects with Freudenberg.
