Mitsui E&S tests Japan's first methanol dual-fuel WinGD marine engine

Japanese engine manufacturer Mitsui E&S has completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for the first methanol dual-fuel WinGD large marine engine built in Japan.

The FAT is a quality assurance process carried out at the manufacturer's facility to verify that newly built equipment meets all design specifications and is ready for installation and operation.

The milestone also marks the first WinGD large marine engine produced at Mitsui E&S' Tamano Works. The engine will be installed on the first of four vessels under construction for an undisclosed Japanese shipowner.

The engine was built at Tamano Works through collaboration between the Mitsui E&S Group and technology licensors Everllence and WinGD, supported by the yard's fuel supply infrastructure, according to Mitsui E&S.

The company said it is expanding production capacity for large marine engines at Mitsui E&S Tamano and Mitsui E&S DU Aioi to meet rising demand, in line with the Japanese government's Shipbuilding Industry Revitalization Roadmap.
