Dutch engineering firm Value Maritime claims that its system, installed on the MOL-owned Nexus Victoria, can capture 10% of the vessel’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The company adds that the system has the potential to scale its capture rate up to 30% if required.
The captured CO2 is stored in onboard tanks and later discharged onshore, where it can be used in green methanol production or other industries, or stored underground.
In addition to CO2, the equipment also filters out sulphur and particulates from the ship’s exhaust fumes, Value Maritime explained.
