Molslinjen launches fully-electric ferry in Denmark

Danish ferry operator Molslinjen has introduced a new ferry in Denmark powered entirely by a fully-electric propulsion system.

While its immediate effect on global greenhouse gas emissions may be minimal, the vessel is important for the technical and operational insights it offers, which could guide the future development of larger electric ships.

Named Nerthus, the ferry runs solely on electric battery power and includes a backup generator for added flexibility.

It is set to operate on the route between the islands of Funen and Als in Denmark.
