Nakilat takes delivery of dual-fuel LPG/ammonia carrier
Qatari shipping company Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) has taken delivery of a new LPG dual-fuel LPG/ammonia carrier from South Korea’s HD Hyundai Samho shipyard in Yeongam.

Named Energy North, the 90,000-cbm vessel can run on LPG or conventional marine fuels and is capable of carrying both LPG and ammonia cargoes. The vessel is scheduled to enter service on 2 October.
Energy North is the first vessel delivered under Nakilat’s programme to build six new ships at HD Hyundai Samho, comprising two LNG carriers and four LPG/ammonia carriers.
The global fleet of LPG-capable vessels currently numbers 183 ships, with a further 165 vessels expected to join the fleet by 2030. Of the existing fleet, 169 are dedicated LPG carriers, while 14 can carry both LPG and ammonia, according to classification society DNV.
