New UK shipping coalition seek cleaner fuel investment
UK-based trade bodies have launched a new coalition to accelerate the uptake of low- and zero-emission bunker fuels in UK shipping.

The UK Chamber of Shipping and Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) want to ensure that the domestic shipping sector has “the fuels, infrastructure and policy framework” to achieve net-zero emissions, the non-profits said in a joint statement.
It plans to provide input into the UK government's upcoming consultation on domestic maritime fuel regulation, with a focus on supporting investments in low- and zero-emission fuel production, bunkering infrastructure and related technologies.
The coalition will also push for revenues raised from the inclusion of shipping in the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) to be reinvested in maritime decarbonisation, including fuel production and port infrastructure.
Other coalition members include International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), the Global Methanol Alliance - formerly Methanol Institute – and Sea-LNG, which hold non-governmental organization consultative status at the IMO.
Access to alternative fuels is a key challenge for UK shipping, and greater industry-government collaboration is needed to support investment in fuels, infrastructure and new technologies, Rhett Hatcher, chief executive of the UK Chamber of Shipping, said.
