The mega-plant will utilise 4 GW of solar and wind power to produce up to 1.2 million mt/year of green ammonia, which translates to around 600 mt/day of green hydrogen.

The facility, scheduled to be operational by 2026, will be funded by Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF) and National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) with other financial institutions.

The plant plans to make 100% of produced green hydrogen available for export in the form of ammonia via a long-term deal with US-based chemicals company Air Products.

NGHC’s chief executive David R. Edmondson said the company intends “to leverage the expertise and vision of its partners to accelerate the global green hydrogen economy.” Edmondson added that NGHC’s goals are in sync with Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030 and the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative.”
