The Leikanger will operate in Norled’s short-sea Hella-Vangsnes-Dragsvik routes in Norway, joining its sister vessels Hella and Dragsvik, which were delivered in March and July last year.
After a two-year delay in delivery due to Covid-19, all the three ferries that Norled had on order have now entered its fleet. The Norwegian ferry operator has regularly invested in battery-powered vessels over the past few years.
The ferries will primarily operate on lithium-ion batteries, but can run in a hybrid battery-diesel mode if needed. Each of the ferries can carry 300 people and 80 cars, and have a service speed of 10 knots.
