Plug Nord is a Norwegian joint venture that provides shore power for northern Norway's ports.
Narvik plans to construct both high-voltage and low-voltage shore power units for larger cruise ships and smaller cruise vessels respectively, which will accommodate one cruise ship at a time.
This project has been awarded NOK 10.7 million ($1.08 million) in funding from Enova.
Maria Bos, chief executive of Plug Nord, said "This illustrates that shore power is an important part of a more environmentally friendly future. We are building the infrastructure necessary for the ships to connect. We know that some of the cruise vessels are ready to receive shore power, but we hope more ship owners will follow suit. That is the only way we can maximise usage and significantly reduce emissions."
Last week, Plug partnered with Scotland's Montrose Port Authority to install shore power at the port.
