The vessel, MS Green Ammonia, will be equipped with Wärtsilä’s ammonia-dual fuel engine capable of meeting “up to 85% of the ship’s energy needs with ammonia,” the company said.
It will also feature a shore power connection and a wind-assisted propulsion system, Greig Maritime added.
Designed with a 5,000-mt capacity, the vessel is intended to support both ship-to-terminal and ship-to-ship bunkering operations along the Norwegian coast, the Arctic region and continental Europe.
The project has received a NOK 80 million ($7.17 million) grant from Enova SF, the Norwegian government’s clean tech funding body.
