The ship will be equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of running on methanol and conventional fuels, NS United said.

The vessel “will adapt Phase 3 of EEDI [Energy Efficiency Design Index] (30% reduction in CO2 emission efficiency compared to EEDI standards), which is enforced to bulk carriers entering into shipbuilding contracts in 2025 and later,” it added.

The company informed that it will also look into supply agreements to procure green methanol for the vessel.

Japanese shipbuilders Japan Marine United, Imabari Shipbuilding and Nippon Shipyard will jointly construct the vessel. It is expected to be delivered towards the end of this decade.
