The LPG carrier, Liberty Pathfinder, can run on both LPG and conventional marine fuel oil. It has been built by Sakaide Works, a unit of Japanese shipbuilder Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
The vessel requires a small amount of heavy oil as pilot fuel for LPG fuel ignition, NYK Line says.
It features a shaft generator that produces electricity by rotating the shaft between the main engine and propeller, allowing the vessel to stop using the diesel generator during normal navigation and operate entirely on LPG.
The carrier will be fully capable of carrying ammonia in addition to LPG.
This is Astomos Energy's fifth LPG dual-fuel carrier, following the delivery of Gas Amethyst in June.
