ONE completes blended biofuel trial part of project for renewable fuel guidelines
Container shipping company Ocean Network Express (ONE) has tested a biofuel blend as part of a pilot project that aims to set guidelines on the quality, quantity and emissions reduction potentials of renewable fuels.

ONE says Chevron refuelled its container ship, the MOL Endowment, with 992 mt of blended marine biofuel at the port of Singapore on 21 December 2022. The vessel consumed the biofuel over 20 days.
Biofuel blends are a mixture of renewable fuels and existing fossil fuels. ONE says it used a B24 biofuel blend of 24% plant waste-based used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME) mixed with 76% VLSFO in the trial.
Shipping companies around the globe have been testing blended biofuels as a way to trim some of their carbon dioxide emissions in the short-term or as part of preparations for cuts towards upcoming IMO 2030 and 2050 emissions regulations.
ONE’s trial is part of a pilot project launched by the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) last year.
ONE has also completed a separate trial of 20% biofuel mixed with HSFO as part of the GCMD pilot project.
