Methanol and ammonia-ready means that the vessel will not be capable of running on these alternative fuels upon delivery, but it will have the option to be retrofitted for methanol and ammonia propulsion in the future. This implies the new vessel will likely run on fossil-marine fuels upon delivery.
Built by South Korean shipbuilding company Hyundai Heavy Industries, the 13,800 TEU vessel, ONE Sparkle, is equipped with shore power capabilities. It is part of a series of 20 large vessels, designed to be methanol and ammonia-ready, that are being built in South Korea and Japan. These ships are scheduled for deliveries in 2025 and 2026.
Classified by ABS, ONE Sparkle is managed by OneSea Solutions, a joint venture between shipping company ONE and Hong Kong-based shipowner Seaspan Corporation.
