A vessel successfully trialled and connected to the shore power system through a “lift-on/lift-off” operation at a terminal in the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, ONE reported.
Lift-on/lift-off means that when a shore power-capable ship arrives at a port without a fixed cable reel or an onboard AMP container, a containerised unit is placed on the vessel to enable the shore power connection. ONE explained that the unit was removed before departure.
According to the company, this containerised shore power system is already being used on the US West Coast.
