Singapore-based shipbuilding firm Pinnacle Marine and the maritime transportation company Abo Shoten will collaborate on the trial. In this partnership, Abo Shoten will contribute to funding both the construction and operational costs of the trial vessel.

The biofuel will be made of 100% fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), but the duo has not specified the quantity of fuel to be bunkered nor has named the biofuel supplier.

Other project partners include Nanyang Technological University's (NTU’s) Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence, Singapore-based equipment manufacturer Weichai Singapore, and China Classification Society.
