With this operation, the terminal has successfully completed its first practical test by supplying shore-side electricity to a container ship during its lay time.

The test was a joint effort by the Hamburg Port Authority, logistics company Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA) and MSC.

With the new installation, the Port of Hamburg now has its third shore-side power station for container ships, currently in the transition phase toward full operation.

Another power station at HHLA’s Burchardkai terminal is expected to be completed this year. Once operational, shore-side power will be available at all mega-ship berths by the end of this year.
