Testing is underway at two terminals: the Central Klaipėda Terminal, with three units, and the Klaipėda Container Terminal, with one unit. Once operational, up to four vessels will be able to connect to the shore power facility, the port authority said.
“All units will serve ferries operating on international routes and transporting both passengers and cargo vehicles,” it said.
The €10 million project ($11.7 million) has been allocated around €8.6 million ($10 million) in funding under the European Commission’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Transport programme.
Klaipėda has also recently completed construction for its green hydrogen production and bunkering project, with operations set to begin in the coming weeks.
