The feasibility study will assess the costs of installing shore power and its projected impact on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the port.

Quebec is an inland port located in Quebec City, Canada and is a popular cruise ship destination.

The Port of Quebec’s chief executive Mario Girard says that cruise lines have used the pandemic to carry out “massive electrification of their ships,” which have been compelling port authorities to “consider the electrification” of docks.

Girard’s statement echoes a rapidly growing sentiment among port operators who have been increasingly looking to shore power to cut carbon dioxide emissions.

Earlier this month, Scotland's Montrose Port Authority entered a joint venture with shore power company Plug Shore Power to install shore power.
