The facility now provides connections at 11 kilovolt (kV) and 6.6 kV voltage levels, with frequencies of either 50 or 60 Hertz (Hz), supporting both cruise ships and ferries. It can accommodate shore power for either three ferries simultaneously or, a single cruise ship.
The shore power system was installed by a consortium led by Swiss automation company ABB, alongside construction firm Eiffage Construction and electrical specialist Fauché.
With this setup, the city can significantly cut carbon emissions, as well as SOx, NOx, and noise pollution while ships are docked, ABB said.
The port is also equipped with technology to connect a 1 megawatt (MW) hydrogen fuel cell system. However, ABB has not disclosed further details about the system.
The installation is currently in its final acceptance phase.
