The Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania’s largest port, is a seaport located along the South-eastern Baltic coastline.

Proman will assist the port in designing and implementing the proposed methanol bunkering system. It will also supply methanol for bunkering once the facility becomes operational.

Additionally, it will evaluate the feasibility of developing a methanol-to-power facility to generate shore power in or near the port.

Vessels powered by alternative fuels are becoming "more integrated" as ports and shipowners strive to reduce annual emissions, said Algis Latakas, chief executive of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority adding, “ports need to make decisions today to keep pace and to offer alternative fuel hubs to shipping lines in time."

“With the cooperation agreement, Proman will also support the Port of Klaipėda to initiate dialogue and cooperation with methanol experts and operators, methanol clusters and associations, as well as shipping lines,” said the joint statement.
