All inbound vessel traffic in Durban has been suspended due to adverse weather conditions, South Africa’s Transnet National Ports Authority said.

The port has been hit by strong south-westerly winds of around 30 knots and swells of more than 2.5 metres today, with rough conditions expected to persist until Wednesday.

All bunkering operations in Durban are mainly carried out at berth, and if vessels cannot move into berth, they cannot receive bunkers, a source said.

Getting supplies of HSFO and VLSFO in Durban may require lead times of around 5-7 days, a trader said.
