Rough weather suspends port operations in Gibraltar

March 19, 2026

All inbound traffic has been suspended in Gibraltar as high swells are making it difficult for pilots to board vessels, shipping agent A Mateos & Sons said.

Rough winds of more than 30 knots and waves higher than 2.5 metres are forecast in the port until Friday evening.

Service launches to the eastern anchorage and operations in the outer port limits have also been suspended, according to A Mateos & Sons.

The disruption could lead to supply backlogs and congestion in the port by the time the weather improves.

Around 59 vessels are expected to call for bunkers in the port between 19-27 March, A Mateos & Sons said.
