The company can provide shore power to seagoing vessels in the range of 400/440/690V (volts) and 50/60Hz (hertz). Battery containers can also be deployed to supply extra power during peak demand.

The power supply will be generated by roof-based solar panels during daytime and by wind during night and on cloudy days.

Royal Roos partnered with Rotterdam-based tugboat operator ALP Maritime for the project, which was funded by EU’s investment programme.

Tugboat ALP Winger was connected to shore power facility at Merwehaven site in Rotterdam on 17 May – becoming the first vessel to be use the service.

By connecting ALP Winger to shore power, the vessel can save up to 1.5 mt/d of fuel and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 4.5 mt, ALP Maritime claims.
