Schulte Group says the bunker vessel can deliver LNG to all current and soon-to-come vessels.
The number of LNG bunker vessels in operation globally has nearly doubled from 20 in 2019 to 39 this year, classification society DNV has noted. 18 vessels are on order for delivery over the next few years, and another 18 are under discussion for orders.
There are currently 317 LNG-powered vessels for these bunker vessels to deliver fuel to. But the global LNG-powered fleet is set to grow rapidly with 510 vessels on order towards 2028 and an additional 229 LNG-ready vessels on order that can be converted to run on LNG at a given time.
“The number of LNG-fuelled vessels planned to enter into operation in the next few years is significant as operators increasingly turn to LNG,” said Johan Lillieskold, gas solutions specialist at Schulte Group's LNG Competence Centre.
