Sea-LNG gets consultative role at IMO

LNG-focused trade body Sea-LNG has been granted official non-governmental consultative status by the IMO.

The status will allow Sea-LNG to participate in IMO committees, sub-committees and working groups, where it can provide technical input and policy recommendations to support the development of global shipping decarbonisation regulations.

Sea-LNG said it will contribute to technical discussions on reducing well-to-wake emissions from methane-fuelled ships and scaling up the deployment of bio- and e-methane.

According to the IMO, organisations seeking consultative status must demonstrate relevant expertise and the ability to make a meaningful contribution to its regulatory work.

Sea-LNG has contributed to several methane-related studies and has submitted proposals to meetings of the IMO's Maritime Environment Protection Committee (MEPC).

Its members include bunker suppliers Gasum, Shell and Titan Clean Fuels, shipping firms Mediterranean Shipping Company, the Port of Galveston and insurance provider UK P&I.
