SFL orders two LPG dual-fuel ammonia carriers
October 8, 2026
Shipowner SFL Corporation (SFL) has ordered two very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) that can run on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), propane and butane, as well as conventional fuel.
Ole B. Hjertaker, chief executive of SFL, confirmed the fuel set-up to ENGINE.
The 93,000 cbm carriers will be able to carry a wide range of petrochemical gases, the company said. Their deliveries are scheduled from the second quarter of 2028.
SFL has agreed long-term time charters for the vessels with a European oil major. The length of the initial charter will be decided within six months, and the oil major will have the option to extend it by up to four years.
