Shanghai bunker sales rise, methanol tops Singapore
Bunker suppliers in Shanghai sold about 4.55 million mt of bonded bunker fuel in 2025, almost 10% higher than the previous year, according to the Shanghai Municipal Office of Port Services, citing Shanghai Port Customs data.

During the year, Shanghai also sold around 712,000 cbm of LNG, equivalent to about 318,000 mt. This was lower than the 571,000 mt of LNG sold in Singapore.
The port additionally sold around 10,000 mt of domestically produced green methanol, marking Shanghai’s first recorded year of green methanol bunkering.
This volume was significantly higher than the roughly 3,000 mt of methanol sold in Singapore over the same period.
Singapore, however, is expected to see increased methanol bunkering activity this year.
In November, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore issued three methanol bunkering licences, valid for five years from 1 January 2026, including one to Global Energy Trading.
More recently, Dutch tank storage operator Vopak said it is enabling a green methanol supply chain from China to Singapore for bunkering, in partnership with Global Energy Trading through its terminal network.
