The offshore wind vessel called the Midi-SOV will be equipped with methanol dual-fuel engines that can run on both methanol and diesel. It will also feature electric propulsion and a supporting energy storage system.
The vessel design will be compliant with the Jones Act, which requires that all vessels carrying goods between two US points be US-built, -owned, -crewed and -flagged, and ready for production in US shipyards, VARD says.
The companies expect the vessel to arrive in both the US and European markets in 2024.
