Singapore conventional bunker sales swelled by 11% in October

An increase in vessels arriving for bunkering, along with higher VLSFO and HSFO sales, drove up the port’s total bunker sales in October.


Changes in bunker sales from September to October:

  • Total sales up 452,000 mt to 4.69 million mt
  • VLSFO sales up 266,000 mt to 2.51 million mt
  • HSFO sales up 180,000 mt to 1.82 million mt
  • MGO sales up 5,000 mt to 352,000 mt


In October, Singapore saw a rise in sales of VLSFO, HSFO, and MGO by 12%, 11%, and 1%, respectively.

The Southeast Asian bunker hub bunkered 3,452 vessels during the month, marking a notable increase of 185 from 3,267 in September, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. The average stem size also rose slightly by around 60 mt, reaching 1,358 mt.

Overall, total bunker sales for the first ten months of the year were 6% higher than in the same period last year.



Fuel grade share of total sales in October (compared to year to date):

  • 54% VLSFO (55% YTD)
  • 39% HSFO (37% YTD)
  • 8% MGO (7% YTD)
