Singapore’s August conventional bunker sales hold steady

September 16, 2026

Fewer vessels called at Singapore for bunkering in August, but the decline was offset by a higher average stem size during the month and stronger HSFO and MGO sales, leaving overall bunker volumes broadly unchanged from the previous month.

Changes in bunker sales from July to August:

  • Total sales up 15,000 mt to 4.66 million mt
  • VLSFO sales down 134,000 mt to 2.19 million mt
  • HSFO sales up 142,000 mt to 2.10 million mt
  • MGO sales up 8,000 mt to 368,000 mt

Sales of HSFO and MGO in Singapore increased by 7% and 2%, respectively, in August, while VLSFO sales declined by 6%, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

The port recorded 3,588 vessel calls for bunkering during the month, down by 87 vessels from July. Despite the lower number of calls, the average stem size edged up to around 1,300 mt, from approximately 1,260 mt in July.

Cumulatively, total bunker sales during the first eight months of the year were 4% higher than in the corresponding period last year.

Fuel grade share of total sales in August (compared to year to date):

  • 47% VLSFO (50% YTD)
  • 45% HSFO (42% YTD)
  • 8% MGO (8% YTD)
