Singapore’s conventional bunker sales increased by 4% in May

June 17, 2026

Higher vessel arrivals for bunkering, coupled with increased VLSFO and MGO sales, boosted the port’s total bunker sales in May.

Changes in bunker sales from April to May:

  • Total sales up 183,000 mt to 4.42 million mt
  • VLSFO sales up 104,000 mt to 2.29 million mt
  • HSFO sales largely unchanged at 1.80 million mt
  • MGO sales up 72,000 mt to 328,000 mt

MGO sales in the Port of Singapore climbed 28% in May compared to the previous month, while VLSFO sales posted a more modest 5% increase. HSFO sales, meanwhile, remained broadly stable over the same period.

Around 3,690 vessels took bunkers in the port during May, up by 252 vessels from 3,438 in April, preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) showed.

Despite the higher number of bunker calls, average daily bunker sales remained largely unchanged from April levels.

Over the first five months of the year, total bunker sales in Singapore were 6% higher than in the corresponding period of last year.

Fuel grade share of total sales in May (compared to year to date):

  • 52% VLSFO (51% YTD)
  • 41% HSFO (41% YTD)
  • 7% MGO (7% YTD)
